Statements by Human Union Appeal Signatories

Below we present statements of political ideals and thought from people who have signed the Human Union Appeal.

Luis Frausto (Human Union Appeal signatory; statement posted July 2011)

During the course of the last century, human society has built up tremendous pressure threatening its own health, mostly due to war, reckless resource exploitation, irresponsible economic and industrial policies and a daunting lack of consciousness. Climate change and sustainability issues result directly from our patterns of thinking, acting and visualizing. Because we live in such a consumption-dominated, media-controlled and egoic-led society, most people live in a certain state of permanent imprisonment which prevents them from effectively appreciating the beauty and value of life. Today, collective patterns of thinking and perception have become derailed from our basic natural paths, leading us to the irresponsible behavior that constitutes the core of our day-to-day life.

Our society deserves a great deal of attention and consideration, and so do all forms of life and ultimately the entire planet, which is our habitat. Democracy, freedom, economic growth, crime prevention, science and technology and R&D are all of great importance for societies, but even if not looked at through a holistic lens, they will fail to live up to the expectations and demands of our world's sustainability without the insertion of effective human consciousness.

The challenge to be undertaken by all nations is to develop an educational/psychological model to articulate a whole new paradigm, a new paradigm that conveys meaning already contained inside a person's ultimate conception of his own being. Now is the time for all nations of the world to act and promote the implementation of a high-impact innovative educational approach which encompasses and respects our humanity. By doing this, lifestyle, views, aspirations and behavior of human beings should start to change in the short-to mid-term, probably as quick as present young generations move into adulthood.

Please, spread the word and help us build a better world.

Josep Ll. Ortega (Human Union Appeal signatory; statement posted January 2011

Them or us? I have come to see this question as more and more irrelevant. The real question is who are "we" and who are "them". In terms of rights and duties, I am no longer able to see any "them" out there.

It just doesn't feel right to think of a trade, political or any other kind of agreement where "our" benefit is imposed against "theirs". Shall we ignore poverty, oppression, killing or rape because it just happens to "them" while we (our corporations, interests, sales, influence) benefit? Shall we accept non-democratic, non-respecting of human rights governments, even sell them arms, because this favors business in our country or a segment of our labor force? Shall we keep a decision making system that allows us to manipulate things in our favor while denying voice to others? Shall we care for us and leave them aside?

I say there are no others. There must be a way to seek our benefit, while construing "we" as encompassing "all", which means all people on Earth, but also all life on Earth, and eventually other sentient and non-sentient life if we ever find it.

There is, I believe, a growing consciousness about "we as all" in the minds and hearts of millions of people. However, this is not enough: we need to convert this simple but powerful notion into practical, viable political principles and organizations, such as world citizenship, democratic global governance, and global and ecological justice.

There are a number of proposals related to some or all of these principles: establishing a democratic world federation, creating a world parliament, reforming the United Nations, developing continental or supranational unions that later can join and create still larger unions, or even a forever expanding European Union. I support most if not all of them, but I believe the Human Union proposal to be the most comprehensive and possibly the best way forward at this particular historical moment.

Thus I am a Human Union Appeal signatory, and thus I ask you to support the Human Union Project.

Vijayaraghavan Padmanabhan (Human Union Appeal signatory; statement posted December 2010)

I believe that to achieve an ideal state of Human Union the ideal political mechanism of Partyless Governance is needed. For this an ideal economic system based on Gross National Happiness is needed. To achieve this the society starting from the individual needs to be rooted in its own spiritual reality.

All these are ideals but the goal needs to be clear so that the path has a proper direction. I have put down these ideas in the form of articles published at www.opednews.com and www.futurehealth.org . Spirituality can be tapped for the benefit of all. I have put this down in my articles centered on Health.

Lyndon Storey (Human Union Appeal signatory, Human Union Project website coordinator; statement posted December 2010)

It is time for us to move from the ages of religion and nationalism into the age of human political justice. Justice in one country is not justice.  We need to find a way to work together to address the problems the world faces and at the moment human unionism is probably the best way. Some works of mine connected to human unionism:

Book:  Humanity or Sovereignty

Articles: Australian election 2007 article  /  Australian border policy 2009 article

I urge anyone reading this to look around the Human Union Project website and help us build a Human Union for the 21st century.
